PARENTS's MEET ON 2ND JANUARY 2012

Dear All

In continuation to our plan, we had Parents's Meet on 2nd Jan 2012 in the School situated at Hyderabad. The group has specific points to clarify in respect of their children with special needs. On this day, we had Shri N Lakshmi Narayana to address the group for better clarity for their challenges and way to move forward. The proceedings of the meet are as follows:

• First we had the introduction of the group including the family environment.
• Then tried to understand their challenges in respect of their child with special needs at home environment. 
• Tried to get the strengths and skills of their wards.
• The commonality among the parents is that their children are not coping with the daily activities, do have less span of attention, needs more support and other related issues. 
• In respect of getting the disability certificate and pension, several of them do have some problem.  
• Other than this, all do not know to know about their rights, benefits and schemes extended by the Government both State and Central. 
• But the real strength with all of them is to move forward in creating better life for their wards. 

Knowing this from the Parents, a beginning has been made in addressing the challenges one by one. They include as follows:

• Understanding the causes and consequences of the disability.
• Process to get the disability certificate for the fresh and to the holder of the manual format. The need to get the computerized certificate for continuing the pension. 
• To obtain the pension for the new and old to continue.
• The aims and objective of the national Trust Act and its schemes and benefits.  
• Availability of individuals schemes like: NIRAMAYA- health insurance, Gyan Prabha - schlorship reimbursement scheme, Uddaym Prabha - interest subsidy scheme, and ASPIRATION and SAMARTH   schemes given for the NGOs. 
• Employment / Livelihood opportunities. 
• The expected scheme for answering the unanswered question of every parent that "what will happen to the child after us?"   

A good beginning has bee initiated to get the acceptance of the parents and all of them got motivated to move forward. We will be continuing this process  on monthly basis. The meet was quite participatory and every one has contributed with their personnel experiences to reach the present stage. The meet was ended with vote of thanks to the group and expressed to have more such meets with specific topics and issues from all the directions.

At the same time, the group has discussed the need of resources and expressed ways to get the same so that better training and rehabilitation can be extended with right based strategies and interventions tuning to the guidelines of the UNCRPD.
