NEXT PARENTS' MEET IN MARCH 2012

In continuation, we are planning to meet again in the new school campus in the second week of March 2012. Month to month, we are coming into the detailed planning of doing the things with the participation of the parents and students. We will be posting more on the meets and other activities / programmes.

CHETANA PROPOSES FOR EYE / DENTAL CAMPS

Dear All

To be part of the stakeholders, another innovative way is to organize camps for various purposes. Among them, Chetana plans to conduct Eye / Dental Camp for the children, parents, family members and other community members with the support of local Hospitals. Initiation have been made with the Doctors and Hospitals to conduct the same in the end of Feb 2012. This helps for their medical diagnosis and needy supports. More will be posted on this. The interested can contact Chentana for more details on this as well as on its other activities / services / programmes.

CHETANA PLANS FOR LONGER TRAVEL WITH THE CHILDREN AND PARENTS...

Dear All

In continuation to the process of INCLUSION, Chenatna is planning for longer distance trips for the children along with their parents and family members. Parents were happy and was in fact the desire of some of the parents to go out like others. It works with several purposes like:

* Chance for the children to see the new environments

* Check for the children to adjust with people and place

* Parents to get relief and confidence of preparing their children to 

   be part of the given environment

* To minimize the stigma and impact of disability

* To exercise their rights 

* To see other children................................

Certainly, these proposed visits works with wonders in the lives of these children and their parents.............  more will be posted after visits.......

CHETANA WITH COMMUNITY CELEBRATIONS

Dear All

For better networking and connectivity, Chetana moves with the communities and involves in their traditional celebrations. During the end of January 2912, Chentana participated with one of the Community Celebrations and crated an inclusive environment for the children with special abilities. This is one of the innovative way making these children to be part of the community with better participation and understanding. 

The parents of these children and other participants were happy to be part of such celebrations and felt to have more such events. Inspired with this positive change, Chetana is in the process of planning more such events.

HOME / COMMUNITY VISITS

Dear All

In addition to the institutional training and rehabilitation, Chetana Special School extend such services to the children who couldn't be reach the school mainly due their vulnerability. This helps the children to enhance their skills and capacities for overcoming their limitations. 

At the same time, these services were also extended to the school children with the focus of observing them at their home / community environment. On regular basis, these home / community visits were made by the team of Chetana and interacted with the parents and community members for identification and interventions in addition to work for its prevention.     

These services were effective and enhancing the connectivity with relationships for moving forward....

SCHOOL PREPAREDNESS AT CHETANA SPECIAL SCHOOL

Dear All

In view of United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) and Right to Education (RTE), all the children irrespective of their abilities should be part of the community with equality and dignity with right based strategies and interventions. 

More focus is on the Children with disabilities who are out of the mainstream due to inabilities and poor access. Due to the paradigm shift in the whole process of rehabilitation of these children, all the children with disabilities should be in the school with accessable environment. This leads for the early identification and early intervention which leads for their school preparedness and mainstreaming. 

In this direction, Chentana Special School is working with the communities. At the same time, the efforts are put to create awareness among the stakeholders for taking necessary measures for the prevention of disabilities with the aim of disability free community (DFC).

Looking forward for better support from all the stakeholders in reaching its aims and objectives with better sustainability and quality .....

ROLE OF YOUTH

Dear All

It is the fact that the YOUTH has got a greater role in shaping our Nation with sustainable development. The youth when they are at school / college level should be should be associated with the community  developmental programmes for understanding the challenges of the people and the grass root reality of the supports. 

In this direction, a team of Engineering Students from the Hyderabad based Aeronautical Engineering College visited out school and interacted with the children with special abilities. It helped them to understand these children skills, needs and vulnerability. It also made them to understand the grass root reality and thing what they can do?  

The team assured to support the children and organization directly and indirectly by disseminating this noble cause to other such groups.  

We will be posting more on this in due course of time. Hope, this ignites others to come forward top be part of the noble cause of empowerment of persons with disabilities.

NETWORKING WITH NIMH

Dear All

Need of the hour is to do the networking with the stallholders for enhancing the capacities and required resources. In this connection, we are regularly in touch with NIMH and other NGOs in Hyderabad. 

This blog is connecting us and we will continue this channel for sharing and understanding the needs of the targeted groups which further ignites us to move forward with effective service delivery systems. 

We are sharing this process with our parents and able to connect them for updating statues including achievements.

NATIONAL SEMINAR ON INCLUSIVE EDUCATION BY NIMH IN FEB 2012

Dear All

We are happy to know that NIMH is going to organize " NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON INCLUSIVE EDUCATION FOR STUDENTS WITH MENTAL RETARDATION" on 21st Feb 2012 followed by its 28th Annual Day. 

The objective of the Seminar as announced were as follows:

OBJECTIVES:

• To understand the current practices in promoting Inclusive Education of persons with mental retardation.
• To create a data bank on strategies for implementation of inclusive education practices for persons with mental retardation.  
• To create a platform for providing appropriate education to students with  mental retardation at Secondary and Higher level.  
• To formulate strategies to create awareness among stakeholders such as bureaucrats, educators,  parents and general public on the Right To Education for children with mental retardation.   

This forum helps us to enhance our strength with better capacities so that the concept and philosophy can be carried forward for the better inclusion of the targeted people with disabilities. After participation, we be posting more on this key issue.

PARENTS MEET ON 11TH FEB 2012

Dear All

In continuation to our earlier commitment, conducted the PARENTS MEET on 11th Feb 2012 in the School. The agenda of the meet includes:

@ Review of the progress made
@ Issues and problems faced
@ Measures and strategies to move forward
@ Mobilization of resources
@ Other related activities / programmes.

Accordingly, had detailed discussion with the parents to resolve some of the basic issues like:

* Disability Certification

* Getting Pension

* Enrollment to NIRAMAYA both Fresh and Renewal

* Identification and preparation of the Beneficiary for the enrollment of Gyanprabha and Uddyamprabha 

* Loan subsidy and marriage incentive from the State.

The information on these benefits ignited the parents to think on individual and group basis.

After identification of the group or individual, we will be planning the activity and process to move forward for better economical rehabilitation of the persons with mental retardation and other associated disabilities.
